Richard Schaefer leaves Golden Boy

Richard Schaefer has left Golden Boy. So hay Floyd Mayweather.   According to yesterday’s press release, Schaefer left Golden Boy Promotions to pursue new opportunities undisclosed in the release.  He stated that he has been a successful banker and successful in the boxing business and that he’s sure he will be able to be successful in future endeavors.     A couple of hours later Leonard Ellerbe, Floyd Mayweather’s close executive, announced that he would also cease to make business with Golden Boy Promotions since Schaefer isn’t there anymore.    The only reason they continued to make business with them is because Schaefer was CEO, but if it wasn’t for that, they wouldn’t.    Real reason probably was that  Floyd hates Top Rank and his company still doesn’t have a Promoter’s License.    How they’re going to work after unofficially stating that they’ll be parting ways with Oscar de la Hoya and team is a mystery.

For everybody else who is associated with Top Rank and Golden Boy, this is good news.  We’ll probably see some intriguing matches come to fruition such as the likes as Canelo vs Chavez Jr or Canelo vs Pacquiao.    We may also see Canelo-Cotto, Garcia-Pacquiao, Bradley-Garcia, Matthysse-Provodnikov.      The sky is the limit.  As for Floyd, maybe he has been left in limbo, or maybe Al Haymon and Richard Schaefer have other plans.  Whatever the deal is, this may or may not be good for boxing.  We will have to wait and see.
